There are a lot of excellent places to explore in and around San Antonio, Texas. With Austin and Houston less than a three-hour drive away, San Antonio enjoys a perfect location from which to discover some of the greatest parts of the Lone Star State. But, it’s no secret that gas is priced like gold these days, which is why so many people are taking a shine to electric vehicles. And while EVs have had a reputation for being expensive, the Chevrolet Bolt can proudly call itself one of the most affordable electric cars, with a starting MSRP of $31,500 for the 2022 model.[a]

In fact, Chevy dropped the price of the Bolt considerably from 2020 as a part of its plan to make EVs affordable to all. That’s why so many people are eager to visit a Chevrolet dealership in San Antonio. For those in the San Antonio area in the market for a fuel-efficient vehicle, we welcome you to visit us here at North Park Chevrolet, conveniently located in Castroville, TX, and let us show you what the amazing Chevy Bolt has to offer.

This sporty little vehicle is often referred to as a “mini” because of its compact size, but don’t let its dimensions fool you. The Chevy Bolt is surprisingly spacious inside, and it’s a lot of fun to drive. Just when you think Chevrolet’s image is set in stone, focusing on pickups and Corvettes, Chevy proves it will never stop growing and expanding to keep customers happy. Chevrolet might have classic values, but they’re looking to the future with their technology and designs. Chevy has continuously improved on this budget-friendly, attractive mini EV, and we can’t wait to see what next year brings. For now, here are reasons to check out the 2022 Chevy Bolt and why it’s a perfect car for residents of San Antonio.

It’s Very Spacious for a Mini

This little electric hatchback is small enough to easily navigate the busy metropolitan streets and get into compact parking spots. In fact, those are two reasons it could be very appealing to those who often visit Houston or Austin and need to find parking in the bustling downtown areas. However, its diminutive size almost defies the laws of physics because the inside is anything but small. The 2022 Chevy Bolt can accommodate five passengers, so it can just as easily be your road trip vehicle or family car as it can be your commuter car.

You can’t talk about an electric vehicle without talking about range. More and more areas are installing charging stations, which should be easy to find around San Antonio. However, if you take this little beauty on a road trip, you’ll want to know how far it can go without needing a plug-in. Luckily, it can go an impressive 259 miles on a full charge. For reference, that’s more than enough to get you to Austin and back, and you can get to Houston without having to plug in.

Backseat passengers enjoy a spacious 36 inches of legroom, a total of 94 cu.ft. of passenger volume, and plenty of headspace. Thanks to its hatchback design, it also has a generous cargo area that’s easy to load. The cargo space offers 17 cu.ft. of room for your belongings, and if you choose to fold down the rear seats, you can enjoy even more space for your things. Those back seats are split-folding, too, for a variety of cargo options. All in all, this car is ready for a weekend getaway with friends or family while offering enough space to keep everyone comfortable.

Incredible Range

The Chevy Bolt has brilliant regenerative brakes that turn some of its energy into electricity, helping you recover a bit of power while you’re out driving. What’s more, is that it has a one-pedal driving mode option. When this is activated, you use just one pedal to speed up and slow down. This feature can significantly improve the range of an electric vehicle, adding quite a few miles to its range (plus, it gives one of your legs a break on long trips).

Of course, there’s the matter of how long it takes to get a full charge. And as a Level 2 charging vehicle, the Chevy Bolt can get up to full juice in 9.5 hours. That means you can plug it in when you go to bed, and by the time you’ve had your next morning’s coffee, it should be ready to go. It’s worth noting that when you don’t have 9.5 hours to spare, you can also get a substantial charge by charging it for just a couple of hours, so you can typically get around on a partial charge so long as you have access to charging stations.

The Chevy Bolt boasts an MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) of 131 in the city, 109 on the highway, and 120 combined. So when comparing it to non-electric vehicles, the best of which only see numbers in the 40s for MPGs, there is no comparison.

 A Unique Look

The Chevy Bolt has undergone some design changes recently, and its most recent facelift has people talking. Its iconic diamond-like design within the grille has become a bit more subtle with more shallow indents than in previous years. This change lends to the overall improved flow from one end to the other on the car.

It still has a mild sloped angle across the front, and the silver accents run along the base of the roof panel and curving alongside the side mirrors, creating a lightning bolt image. However, another change we see is slimmer LED headlights. These replace the round, almost eyeball-like lights from previous years. While they are more discreet, they’re certainly still bright and effective in low-light conditions. This slimming of the lights can be seen in the brake lights, as well, for a uniform look.

The fun color options are a mixture of bold and futuristic to match the very nature of the Chevy Bolt. These include ice blue metallic, summit white, mosaic black metallic, bright blue metallic, gray ghost metallic, silver flare metallic, and cherry red tintcoat. So there are subtler choices for those wanting that, but picking a head-turning paint job is also an option.

Style and Range at an Affordable Price

The Chevy Bolt brings an almost European style, thanks to its mini design, to this iconic American brand and offers an affordable electric vehicle option. It packs a ton of functionality into a small vehicle, with its five seats, large cargo area, and impressive range. It’s a truly versatile vehicle. The Bolt is ideal for cosmopolitan areas, thanks to its parking-friendly dimensions, easy handling, and modern aesthetic. But, as a hatchback, it’s rooted in that road trip lifestyle. And with a 259-mile range, it’s just begging you to take it for long drives to check out all that the great state of Texas has to offer.

We love that Chevy has ventured into new territory with this car, showing that they’re capable of much more than pickups and SUVs. Chevy has a history of disproving the myth that any given car style is only for those with a luxury budget. They did it with a sports car when they made the Corvette, and they’ve done it with the electric vehicle by making the Bolt. The future is here for San Antonio drivers, and we invite you to come into North Park Chevrolet to experience the Chevy Bolt for yourself.
