2026 Chevy Trax

A green 2026 Chevy Trax ACTIV angled left.

When the Chevy Trax debuted in 2015, it immediately appealed to a wide range of buyers looking for an affordable subcompact vehicle that was easy to maneuver on tight city streets and in traffic. They also wanted something with good fuel economy and a bit of personality. The first generation checked those boxes, and the brand took a year off to refine and improve this subcompact SUV for an even better driving experience.

The Chevy Trax, unveiled after the break, was completely transformed, offering more space, along with a stronger focus on technology, new trim levels, and improved safety features. Since then, the SUV has been on an upward trajectory, which is why many drivers are taking a long look at the 2026 Chevy Trax.

Our friendly, knowledgeable team at North Park Chevrolet is available to answer any questions you might have about the Trax, whether online or in person. You will also find that we offer a large selection, ensuring you get the right trim and features for your specific driving needs.

Affordable Style Meets Everyday Performance

The latest version of the Trax remains one of the most affordable subcompact SUVs in the industry, which is just one of the reasons it's a great choice for first-time buyers, commuters, young professionals, empty nesters, and more. It also offers fresh exterior color options and ranks among the Best Subcompact SUVs, according to Car and Driver.

The 2026 Chevy Trax continues to offer the same five trims as it did when it was reintroduced in 2024: LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and ACTIV. All five trims are equipped with a 1.2L inline-three engine and a six-speed automatic transmission, delivering up to 137 hp. However, it's the agile handling and smooth shifting that truly stand out, making each trip just as enjoyable as the last.

Interior Comfort and Cargo Space

As mentioned, the 2026 Trax is a great option for commuters. Still, its roomy interior and focus on comfort also appeal to those who enjoy weekend getaways every other month or so.

Breaking that down further, you will find that the SUV has a passenger volume of 98 cu.ft. It is also near the top of the list when comparing legroom among subcompact SUVs, with 41.9 inches in the front and 38.7 inches in the rear.

Flexible Cargo and Everyday Versatility

Regarding cargo space, it offers up to 54.1 cu.ft. with the rear seats folded down, it has 25.6 cu.ft. with them upright. Additionally, you can fold the passenger seat down to expand cargo space on one side if you need to haul something longer.

It is also worth noting that, even though it doesn't affect interior space, the Trax has 7.3 inches of ground clearance. This can be a key feature for outdoor enthusiasts when navigating campgrounds, state parks, and other outdoor areas.

Something to consider if you like the feel of a car but want the flexibility of an SUV is that the Trax offers a more sedan-like driving position. While its wheelbase is longer than that of its original model, its maneuverability is a key reason drivers choose it.

Comfort Features and Driver Convenience

There are a few amenities that boost comfort levels, including heated seats, which are standard for the 1RS, ACTIV, and 2RS trims but available for the other two. That, combined with the standard remote start feature on all but the LS trim, ensures the vehicle is heated or cooled when you're ready to head out. The higher trims—1RS, 2RS, and ACTIV—also have a standard heated steering wheel.

Last, but not least, the LS, LT, and 1RS trim levels have a six-way manual driver seat, while the 2RS and the ACTIV trims have a standard eight-way power driver seat. You will also find that the front seats are wide and comfortable, offering support whether you are simply running errands around town or traveling further away.

Advanced Technology

In today's tech-driven world, you need a vehicle that helps you stay connected, which is exactly what you get when you choose the 2026 Chevy Trax, starting with the standard eight-inch infotainment touchscreen in the LS and 1RS trims. A larger, 11-inch touchscreen is standard for the other three trims.

From the touchscreens, you can control any number of things, as well as connect a compatible phone to access wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. There is also a wireless phone charger available on higher trims, and a Wi-Fi hotspot that can be used with an OnStar subscription.

Standard Safety Suite for Everyday Confidence

The Trax comes well-equipped on the safety side of things, thanks to the brand's suite of six advanced safety and driver-assistance features. That suite, known as Chevy Safety Assist, includes the following:

  • Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking: This system scans the road ahead and alerts the driver's information center if it detects a potential collision. Then, if you're unable to stop in time, it automatically applies the brakes to help avoid the collision or at least minimize the impact.
  • Front Pedestrian Braking: Much like the system above, sensors detect when a pedestrian is in the vehicle's path, and the brakes can be applied to stop the vehicle before a collision occurs.
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning: This system helps keep you centered in your lane and alerts you if you drift too far to the left or right.
  • Following Distance Indicator: When the following distance indicator is activated, you will receive an alert if you are following too closely to the vehicle ahead. This alert allows you to slow down and follow at a safer distance.
  • IntelliBeam High Beam Assist: While it might not seem like a big deal, not having to worry about whether you should or shouldn't have your high beams on lets you keep all your focus on the road. This system does just that for you, scanning the road ahead and automatically turning the high beams on when the extra illumination is needed and off when it is not or when a car is approaching.

Additional available safety features include Rear Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert. At the same time, a rear vision camera, rear seat reminder, and Teen Driver Technology are standard.
