2022 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD
There's big, and then there's really big. The 2022 Silverado 2500 HD falls into the second category. This heavy-duty rig comes ready for hard work, so if you're towing a gooseneck trailer or you need a truck that can haul some serious payload, look no further than Chevy's three-quarter-ton beast. Between the 2500 HD's impressive 18,510-pound max tow rating and the available Advanced Trailering System with up to 15 different camera views, hooking up and hauling a large trailer is easier than ever, and you won't need a buddy to help. With five trims, tons of equipment packages, and two different powertrains, buyers can outfit their rig with everything they need.

Towing and Utility
Heavy Duty Capability
First and foremost, when you buy a heavy-duty pickup, you should be concerned about capability. Veteran HD truck buyers are familiar with trailering guidelines and know how to navigate complex spec sheets and zero in on the model they need. For everyone else, you only need to remember a few numbers. First, the Silverado 2500 HD can tow up to 18,510 pounds and haul up to 3,979 pounds of payload.
All that power comes from two available engines: a gas-powered 6.6-liter V8 that makes 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, and a powerful 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 that kicks it up to 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. If you want the max towing capability, opt for the diesel; if you want the maximum payload, you should choose the gas engine.
An Option for Every Driver
Towing and payload capability varies with the drivetrain (two-wheel or four-wheel drive) and cab style. The 2500 HD comes in a regular cab, a double cab, and the largest, a crew cab. Buyers can also choose from a standard bed or a long bed. Three available wheel sizes (17-, 18-, and 20-inch) are determined by the trim level and equipment packages you select.
For example, buyers looking for more off-roading capability might want to consider the available Z71 off-road package. It adds an off-road suspension, 17-inch all-terrain tires on the Work Truck or LT, and 20-inchers on the higher LTZ trim, along with skid plates, Hill Descent Control, and Z71 exterior badging. LTZ trim buyers can also add a companion luxury package for extra cabin amenities.
We recommend adding the available Multi-Flex tailgate to your Chevy Silverado 2500 HD to enhance its capability. How does it work? Chevy took the Silverado's basic tailgate and outfitted it with six different functions. It still acts as a traditional tailgate, but it also includes an inner gate that you can lower for easy access to the bed. Both the inner and outer gates can be used as a load stop, and the inner gate can also be configured as a step or as a flat work surface.
Available Trims
Five Different Trim Options
The 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD comes in five different trims that range from the basic Work Truck (WT) up to the luxury High Country. Within each trim, buyers will find tons of equipment packages and extras, and all five configurations are available with either the gas or diesel powertrain and two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. With so many configuration options, it's easy to build a truck with all the capability you need.
The WT sticks to the basics. It's a no-frills choice for budget buyers, fleets, or tough job site work. Standard mechanical features include an automatic rear locking differential, recovery hooks, Chevy's high-strength steel Durabed with 12 cargo tie-downs, and a corner step built into the rear bumper. The slightly more expensive Custom trim focuses on exterior styling, with larger 18-inch all-terrain tires, power black outside mirrors, and body-color bumpers.
If you like a few creature comforts to go along with all that beastly capability, consider the LT. This is the trim favored by Car and Driver for its overall value and expansive standard equipment list. You'll get standard cruise control and remote keyless entry, along with steering wheel-mounted controls, and you can activate Chevy's robust Connected Services feature, which includes a Wi-Fi hotspot. Choosing the LT also unlocks access to tons of special equipment packages not available on the WT or Custom trims.
Enjoy the Apex of Luxury
Are you still looking for a few more bells and whistles? Moving up to the LTZ affords you plenty of creature comforts and makes standard many of the lineup's most popular options, like Chevy's multi-view Advanced Trailering System. The cabin receives 10-way power front seats, a 40/20/40 front bench seat that contains handy under-seat storage, and a larger 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. Dual-zone automatic climate control is also standard on the LTZ.
The LTZ is great for buyers seeking a few premium features, but if you want the pinnacle of luxury, the High Country is the trim for you. Only available in a crew cab, the High Country features HD Surround Vision, a series of camera views that help with everything from backing out of your driveway to hooking up a trailer. Also standard is a Bed View Camera, a 7-speaker premium Bose sound system, navigation, front bucket seats, and a wireless charger.
Packages and Special Editions
Personalize Your Truck
Are you looking to customize your rig? Select Silverado 2500 HD trims are offered with special edition packages that add unique exterior badging and body accents, along with upgraded wheels and even cabin enhancements. These packages cost extra, but if a custom appearance matters to you, they're worth every penny. Other equipment packages bundle popular features to make building your truck easier.
LTZ trim buyers might want to add the LTZ Premium Package. The package includes tons of interior cabin upgrades, such as heated and ventilated bucket seats, a center console, a universal home remote, and a power tailgate. It also adds the larger 8-inch HD touchscreen with navigation, an HD Surround Vision camera system, a wireless charging pad, and a handful of Chevy Safety Assist driver-assist systems, including Front and Rear Park Assist.
The available Carhartt Edition customizes your truck's exterior with Carhartt badging, pinstriping, a branded roll-top tonneau cover, and a unique front grille. On the inside, you get Carhartt-branded headrests and floor mats and special jet black/Carhartt brown perforated leather seat trim. Finally, the Carhartt Edition also includes Z71 off-road equipment like skid plates, 20-inch all-terrain tires, and a spray-on bedliner to deliver a nice mix of luxury and off-road capability.
Celebrate the Lone Star State
Two special edition packages include the Texas Edition and Premium Texas Edition. Both feature unique exterior badging to celebrate our great state, but primarily, these two packages bundle some of the most sought-after premium interior upgrades and convenience and safety features. Also, the package-exclusive 6-spoke 20-inch polished aluminum wheels further distinguish Texas Edition 2500 HD trucks from the pack.
Package availability varies by trim, but you'll find the most add-ons with the LT and LTZ trims. Chevy designs its optional equipment packages intuitively so buyers can easily add everything they want and nothing they don't. With dozens of different packages to choose from, building a one-of-a-kind truck is made easy.
