The History of Chevrolet

Founded in 1911, Chevrolet is over 100 years old and has consistently been an innovator and leader in the automobile world. It is the third largest auto brand in America, and for a good reason. The brains behind the company had a lot to do with making it such a visionary brand. Chevrolet was created by racer Louis Chevrolet and GM founder William C Durant. Both had a background in racing, with Durant setting a land-speed record in 1905 when he reached 111 mph in an open race car. Durant, who founded GM, consistently hired Chevrolet for his high-profile racing events. Louis Chevrolet was not just a racer but also a mechanic and engineer. The unique specialties of these two men would set the foundation for a brand that consistently breaks new ground.

One thing that immediately set Chevrolet apart was that it proved certain technologies and features that had been previously reserved for luxury cars could appear in affordable vehicles. That's just what Chevrolet did with its first car, the Series C Classic Six, which had an electric starter and electric headlamps––features usually only found on high-priced vehicles at the time. Chevrolet continued this trend by adding safety packages and high-performance motors to its affordable cars that most drivers otherwise paid a pretty penny for back in the early 1900s.

In 2020, Chevy sold 586,675 Silverados, and in 2021 it sold 519,774. The Equinox saw 270,994 units sold in 2020 and 165,323 units sold in 2021. This means Chevrolet earned top-ranking spots for two different body types––an SUV and a pickup truck––helping it reach a wide customer base.

Chevy Silverado 1500

The award-winning and best-selling full-size Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup earned its reputation for exceeding the expectations of its drivers in performance, capability, and up-scale interior accommodations. This has aided in its popularity as a work truck, family vehicle, and on and off-road commuter for generations. The Silverado moniker was first introduced back in 1975 as a premium trim level for C/K trucks, including the Suburban and Tahoe SUVs which were both built on the C/K pickup chassis.

Throughout its history, Chevy has been meeting and surpassing the needs of its drivers. The first-generation Silverado from 1999 through the 2006 model year was available in a variety of variants, including the SS high-performance model and, more notably, a hybrid variant that was the first hybrid passenger vehicle for Chevy. More importantly, this generation was the first time the Chevrolet Silverado would carry a diesel under its hood for a better towing capacity and outstanding fuel economy. History has a way of defining character, and the Silverado does not disappoint.

Chevy Equinox

It takes more than a flashy exterior and a spacious and accommodating interior to compete in one of the most desirable vehicle segments. Thankfully, the Equinox SUV is backed by a brand that puts safety first. Along with good looks, a roomy cabin, and a versatile performance with truck-like capabilities, Chevy Safety Assist and Teen Driver technologies are standard with every Chevrolet Equinox from the 2020 model and newer.

Then, in 2018, the Equinox received a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and has held its top-notch safety rating ever since.

In 2020, the Chevrolet Equinox received yet again another recognition from the IIHS. Only this time, it was declared one of the best vehicles for young drivers for model years 2016 and newer. There's no reason why this crossover that's been in Chevy's lineup since the 2005 model year wouldn't be one of the best in the segment when it offers the complete package from inside out to under the hood and even in safety.

Chevy Colorado

Not all work requires the power and capabilities of a full-size truck like the Silverado. Smaller can actually be more beneficial if you don't need to carry or tow heavy loads around. The midsize Chevrolet Colorado might be smaller than its larger sibling, but it provides a cabin space that's just as accommodating as the Silverado's with any one of its three cab configurations and is the perfect amount of work-truck capability for the average driver.

To ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience, you'll find the interior equipped with premium features for comfort, convenience, entertainment, and connectivity. This is the way it's been since the Colorado was first introduced to Chevy's lineup for the 2004 model year, and is probably why its sales soon surpassed those of the previous reigning champion, the Ford Ranger. Over its two generations, the Colorado has held its place near the top for most sales in its class. It even received the 2017 Edmunds Most Wanted Midsize Truck award and the 2020 KBB.com Best Buy Award for the midsize pickup segment.

Besides its upscale interior, the Colorado is a desirable pickup with diverse powertrain options available, including rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Engine choices range from base 4-cylinders that are ideal for the average commuter to the most powerful and fuel-efficient diesel-powered option that was added in 2016, making the Colorado the first in its class to carry a diesel engine under the hood. Due to its smaller stature, lighter build, and smaller engines, the Colorado delivers better fuel economy than its larger counterpart. These features also make for a better off-road vehicle and mean the Colorado can better handle the narrow streets and crowded parking lots here in San Antonio.

Chevy Bolt EV & Chevy Bolt EUV

If an electrifying driving experience is what you're looking for, the Chevrolet Bolt EV and its larger sibling, the Bolt EUV, are two of the most affordable all-electric vehicles on the market. Like the Bolt EV, the Bolt EUV received its first accolades in its first year. Better yet, they share the same recognition for making Auto Trader's 10 Best Electric Cars for 2022. Chevy Blazer

After a 14-year hiatus, the iconic and versatile Blazer returned to Chevy's lineup for 2019 in its fifth generation and third body style since its introduction in 1969. From what began as the full-size body-on-frame K5 Blazer from 1969 to 1994 emerged the midsize S-10 Blazer SUV from 1983 to 2005, and from 2019 onward, for the first time ever, it became a midsize crossover known simply as the Blazer. Throughout its lifespan, the Blazer has been a desirable SUV for its various capabilities as a family vehicle with working abilities that made adventures outdoors possible, whether it was camping or driving off the pavement in search of your next fishing or hiking adventure.
