2024 Chevy Trailblazer

One of the newest members of the Chevy SUV family is the Trailblazer, a sporty and rugged subcompact crossover that offers a fun way to get to school or work, drive around town, or just get your errands done. It has a surprisingly roomy interior, with plenty of space for up to five passengers.

The 2024 Chevy Trailblazer is the first major refresh of this model, boasting a revised front fascia and grille with a pair of sleek LED headlights that give it a familial resemblance to the larger Chevy Blazer. Chevrolet has also upgraded this model's cabin tech with larger screens for the infotainment and digital gauge cluster, making it easier to view their details.

The 2024 Trailblazer has two new exterior colors—Copper Harbor Metallic and Cacti Green—and the same four trim levels of the prior model year, ranging from the base LS to the mid-level LT, the performance-oriented RS, and the off-road ACTIV trim with an off-road suspension and underbody skid plates. The Trailblazer remains one of the most affordable SUVs on the market, with this 2024 model starting just north of $23k.

Performance

Chevy offers two different engines on the 2024 Trailblazer. The 1.2-liter EcoTec I-3 gas engine comes standard on the LS and LT in front-wheel drive. This engine has a dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) configuration with four valves for each cylinder; it utilizes a turbocharger and direct fuel injection to provide up to 137 hp at 5000 RPM and 162 lb-ft of torque at 2500 RPM.

There is also a 1.3-liter EcoTec I-3 gas engine that's standard on every all-wheel drive model of the 2024 Chevy Trailblazer, as well as on the front-wheel drive RS and ACTIV trims; it is also available as an option on front-wheel drive Trailblazer LT. This engine also has a DOHC configuration, turbocharger, and direct fuel injection—however, its larger size gives it an output of 155 hp at 5000 RPM and 174 lb-ft of torque at 1600 RPM.

Both engines have Chevy’s Automatic Start/Stop technology, which shuts down the engine when you come to a full stop at a red light or in traffic, then automatically restarts the engine when you take your foot off the brake pedal. This will help keep your fuel economy figures high as it deters your engine from consuming gas while idling.

You will get a different transmission depending on which engine and drivetrain you choose on your 2024 Trailblazer. All models with front-wheel drive get a continuously variable transmission (CVT); unlike manual and automatic transmissions that have set gear speeds, a CVT goes through a number of different gear ratios, providing a smoother ride with greater acceleration. The all-wheel drive models of the 2024 Trailblazer feature a nine-speed automatic transmission for a more conventional feel.

The sporty Trailblazer provides good acceleration primarily because of its size and the use of a turbocharged engine. For example, all-wheel drive models with the 1.3-liter Turbo I-3 engine can go from zero to sixty in a snappy 9.4 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph. That will give you enough speed and acceleration to merge onto busy highways.

No matter which trim or drivetrain you choose, you'll get exceptional fuel economy; the smaller engines on the Trailblazer deliver better fuel efficiency than a larger engine, while the turbocharger gives you greater output without compromising fuel economy. The most fuel-efficient engine is the 1.3-liter Turbo I-3 with front-wheel drive, which provides an impressive 31 MPG combined. The Trailblazer LS and LT with the 1.2-liter Turbo I-3 will give you 30 MPG combined. The added traction of the all-wheel drive Trailblazer with the 1.3-liter Turbo I-3 costs you a little fuel economy, dropping this figure to a still solid 27 MPG combined.

Interior

Despite its size, the 2024 Chevy Trailblazer has a surprisingly roomy passenger compartment. In fact, there is over 98 cu.ft. of space for up to five passengers to stretch out and relax. Chevy has done a great job of dividing this space between the two rows, which allows you to actually enjoy the second row of seats—something most other subcompact SUVs struggle with.

This fair apportionment of space is proven in the Trailblazer’s interior dimensions. For example, front-row passengers will get 40.9 inches of legroom and 55.4 inches of shoulder room; this is just a little more than the 39.4 inches of legroom and 53.8 inches of shoulder room in the back seat. This should help you cut down on fights over who gets to ride shotgun.

The LS and LT feature cloth seat fabric, while the RS and ACTIV have Evotex seating surfaces and heated front seats. The ACTIV and RS also feature heated and wrapped steering wheels, and the latter's is flat-bottomed in line with its sporty performance orientation.

Even though the subcompact Trailblazer has a roomy passenger compartment, this does not come at the expense of cargo space. In fact, the liftgate on the back of the 2024 Trailblazer opens to 25.3 cu.ft. of cargo space. If you need more room, the standard 40/60 split-folding rear bench suit can flip down, giving you up to 54.4 cu.ft. of cargo space. An added benefit of the 2024 Trailblazer is its fold-flat front passenger seat, allowing you to fit objects up to 8.5 feet long.

Technology

Copious tech has helped set Chevy apart from its competitors, and the 2024 Trailblazer is full of innovative features that make it safer and more fun to drive than ever. When you factor in the affordable price tag and such standard features as push-button start, cruise control, and an HD rearview camera, it's clear that the 2024 Chevy Trailblazer represents one of the best technological values on the auto market.

Safety is a priority on the 2024 Chevy Trailblazer with its complement of standard Chevy Safety Assist features. For example, the IntelliBeam auto high beam control will turn on when it detects unusually low light and then turn off when lighting improves or it detects another motorist.

The Chevy Safety Assist suite has tools to help reduce the chances of a front-end accident. The Following Distance Indicator will let you know if you are traveling too close to the vehicle in front of you; if you don’t increase the following distance and the other driver brakes, the Forward Collision Alert will sound so you can take evasive action. This will also cause the Automatic Emergency Braking system to engage, bringing your Trailblazer to a safe stop or reducing the impact of an unavoidable collision. There is also Front Pedestrian Braking, which activates if it detects a pedestrian in your path.

A major cause of highway accidents is when a vehicle drifts out of its lane and collides with another vehicle in an adjacent lane; this is why the standard Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning is so important on the Trailblazer. If you begin to drift, the alert will sound, and the system will use slight steering adjustments to get you safely back into your lane. Other great tech—like Buckle-to-Drive and Teen Driver mode—are designed to make driving much safer for those who are new to getting behind the wheel.

One of the biggest new features on the 2024 Trailblazer is the 11.0-inch HD color touchscreen that comes standard on all models; this is a vast improvement on the 7.0-inch and 8.0-inch touchscreen of the prior year’s model. The Chevrolet Infotainment System allows you to make hands-free calls with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility; you can connect your smartphone wirelessly with any of these systems, so you don’t have to worry if you forgot to bring your charging cables.

This system also allows you to stream your music, with the LS trim having a four-speaker audio system and the LT, RS, and ACTIV trims featuring six speakers. If you really love music, you can opt for an available seven-speaker Bose premium audio system on the ACTIV and RS trims. All models feature both SiriusXM satellite radio and OnStar remote access, which lets you use your smartphone to start your Trailblazer remotely, which can come in handy to warm things up on cold winter days.
