2022 Chevy Trailblazer

A small SUV is the perfect balance between a car and a crossover. You get the impressive fuel economy of a car but with additional cargo and passenger space, alongside better terrain capability. In the small SUV market, the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer offers all these perks and more. Not only do you get plenty of space and remarkable fuel efficiency with this model, but you also gain access to standard safety features, abundant technology, and several exterior customization options. When it’s time to purchase a model that can tackle it all, the new Trailblazer paves the way.

One of the aspects we love most about the Trailblazer is its price tag. Despite its many perks, you can get this Chevy model for right over $20,000. Even with its starting trim, the Trailblazer includes a suite of five different driver assist features, along with Teen Driver Mode and fold-flat seating. Even when you choose the ACTIV and RS trims, affordability is still within reach.

You can keep it simple with standard features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, or amp it up with the technology package to access wireless charging and much more. Amazon Alexa Connectivity is also available, along with SiriusXM Radio. Overall, the new Trailblazer is the perfect vehicle to keep everyone entertained without crossing over into the large SUV territory. This model is easy to navigate and loaded with features, which is why we believe it’s the top option in its class.

Performance

While we know you’re not expecting to be able to tow a 12,000-pound camper with the 2022 Trailblazer, power is still important. You want your vehicle to be easy on the fuel tank while also handling snow, rain, and backroads with ease. The good news is that this model offers a balance of performance features that allow it to stay fuel-efficient while also remaining powerful against adverse road conditions.

Drive Modes and Drivetrain

The Trailblazer gives you the option of having front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (depending on the trim). If you opt for all-wheel drive on the Trailblazer, you will get three different drive modes that will make getting around a breeze. Even if you choose the front-wheel drive option, though, you’ll get “snow mode" in place of “all-wheel drive.”

The other two modes are “Normal” for your day-to-day driving and “Sport” for peppier driving styles. To achieve ultimate fuel efficiency, “Normal” Mode is your go-to option. While many competing models only offer front-wheel drivetrains, the Trailblazer’s all-wheel drive availability sets it apart from the crowd.

Engine, ACTIV Trim

Each Trailblazer trim includes a standard 1.3-liter turbocharged engine. However, the ACTIV trim offers off-road capabilities not seen on the other models. In addition to off-roading assets like a skid plate and terrain tires, the ACTIV trim includes off-road-specific tuning. Put simply, this model has a suspension setup that’s more appropriate for off-road bumps and ruts, making it easier to tackle alternative terrains. All this available power allows drivers to still maintain up to 29 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway.

Safety

No matter what vehicle you’re after, safety is an important thing to consider. We love the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer because it includes standard safety features at no additional cost.

Chevy Safety Assist

There are five standard features included on the new Trailblazer, regardless of trim. These features include the following:

  • Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking ?? When a frontal collision is possible, drivers receive an alert. When the driver fails to respond to the alert quickly enough, the Trailblazer will automatically employ the brakes.
  • Front Pedestrian Braking ?? This is same concept as Forward Collision Alert, except this technology specifically detects pedestrians.
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning ?? When the driver unintentionally starts drifting into another lane, this system keeps the Trailblazer centered and sends a notification to the driver.
  • Following Distance Indicator ?? Allows the driver to keep a safe, pre-calculated distance between themselves and the vehicle ahead. This distance stays the same regardless of speed.
  • INTELLIBEAM High Beam Assist ?? Prevents the chances of blinding another driver by automatically dimming your headlights when oncoming traffic approaches.

Chevy eliminates the need to upgrade trims or buy safety packages, thanks to Chevy Safety Assist. These are some of the most important driver assist features on the market right now, and you can get them with the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer for “free.”

Teen Driver Mode

Speaking of family, GM’s exclusive Teen Driver Mode comes as a standard feature on the 2022 Trailblazer as well. This technology employs several safety controls to help keep new drivers safe.

Guardians can set up “Report Cards” that evaluate several factors, including the teen’s max speed, miles driven, how many times the driver assist features have kicked in, and much more. Teen Driver Mode allows for speed and volume limits which are also monitored via the Report Card.

There are also some efficient seatbelt technologies employed to encourage seatbelt usage. These include a volume muter that mutes the radio until all the seatbelts are buckled. “Buckle to Drive” is also part of Teen Driver Mode and keeps the driver from being able to shift for 20 seconds if their seatbelt is not on.

Additional Safety Features

While there are many standard safety features, it is still possible to add even more safety features if desired. This includes “Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert,” which is designed specifically to monitor your blind spots and notify you when it’s unsafe to switch lanes. You can also get “Rear Cross Traffic Alert,” a safety feature most useful when backing out of parking space. It monitors your “Rear Cross” traffic, alerting you of vehicles that may otherwise remain unseen.

Finally, OnStar Security and Safety Coverages are also available on the Trailblazer. You can get a trial of this free for three months when you purchase the Trailblazer brand-new. This includes features such as roadside assistance, accident response services, emergency calling, and much more.

Interior Space

Drivers look for small SUVs in hopes of getting more space than a car, but not so much space that we’re getting into Yukon or Suburban territory. Thanks to the Trailblazer’s 2-level load floor, max 54.5 cubic feet of space, and up to 8.5 feet of cargo length, it offers the perfect balance between the “car” and “large SUV” categories.

Space for Everyone and Everything

Driving alone? You can fold down more than just the rear seats. Even the front passenger seat folds down so you can achieve that full, 8.5-foot length rating. When the hauling is minimal, and the passengers are numerous, you can enjoy best-in-class rear legroom and seating for up to five people total.

You can’t always just set your items down on the ground when it’s time to load the car up. Mud, adverse weather, or breakable items can make loading the vehicle tricky. When it’s time to load up the cargo, you can rely on the programmable “hands-free liftgate” to save the day. Simply swipe your foot under the gate with the key nearby, and you’re in.

Whether you’re hauling cargo or carrying passengers, the 2022 Trailblazer makes it easy.
