Choosing between two of the most iconic truck brands can be a hard decision. However, it all comes down to getting the truck that meets your needs, either for work or play. At a glance, the 2022 Chevy Silverado and the 2022 Ford F-150 are both great trucks loved by generations of drivers worldwide. So when it comes to choosing one over the other, there could be one thing that makes or breaks the deal. Usually, the deciding factors can be budget or everyday performance. In the case of the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 vs 2022 Ford F-150, the differences are minor but can make all the difference at the end of the day.

The 2022 Silverado begins at $31,500 and gives drivers a great estimated fuel economy of up to 26 MPG combined, saving drivers money in the long run.[a]The Ford F-150 begins just below the Chevy at $29,900, but its fuel economy tops out at an EPA-estimated 23 MPG combined. Those may be all the numbers you need to make your decision, but when two vehicles are so close, it's better to look closer and see the difference a Chevy or a Ford could make in your life.

Capability

Power and Efficiency

The Chevy Silverado 1500 is a light-duty pick-up truck, and for 2022 Chevy has made it more impressive than ever. The available Duramax 3.0L engine with 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque now gives the truck a towing capacity of up to 13,300 lbs, a substantial increase from last year. Drivers will always have plenty of steady power both on and off the job site. All this, combined with a great estimated fuel economy of up to 26 MPG combined, makes this truck incredibly efficient and gives it the ability to take its drivers farther for less.

The 2022 Ford F-150 is a full-size truck basically made to handle whatever its owner wants to throw at it. However, it lost its diesel engine last year, leaving a V6 hybrid as its most powerful and efficient option. But while its 23 MPG combined might be good by gasoline engine standards, it falls short of Chevy's diesel––as does the 12,700 lb max towing capacity of the Ford hybrid.

Both truck models have a great selection of additional gas engines you can choose from depending on the trim package selected, including two great V8 options for the Chevy Silverado. The base engine for the Chevy was also upgraded for 2022, putting it far ahead of the base engine in the F-150. So it's easy to get a truck tailored to your lifestyle and needs without compromise.

Functional Work Features

When it comes to pick-up trucks, function seems to be a number one priority. The Silverado shines when it comes to great features that help make your day a little easier. Starting with towing and hauling. The Silverado comes with 12 tie-downs and gives drivers a class-leading 89.1 cu.ft. of cargo space in the back. It's no wonder the 2022 Silverado is considered best in its class when it comes to standard volume. Also available is the Multi-Flex Tailgate that makes loading and unloading easier than ever with six different functions, from offering a full-width step to transforming into a workspace for a laptop and papers––a priceless extra if you're working in the field.

The 2022 Ford F-150 lags behind when it comes to work, offering a maximum cargo space of just 77.4 cu.ft. The F-150 also features a handy tailgate that can be upgraded to include a step-up feature, plus Tailgate Lift Assist can help decrease the wear and tear on one of a truck's most used features. However, the Ford tailgate lacks all the additional configurations of the Chevy tailgate.

Interior

The Redesigned Silverado

It's clear the Silverado is at the top of its game when it comes to function, but the inside was redesigned for 2022 to give drivers plenty of room to relax at the end of a long day. Named best in class when it comes to legroom and headroom, the Silverado takes driving to a whole new level. With plenty of interior storage compartments, there's a place for everything.

The available Head Up display makes it easy to keep an eye on things like your vehicle levels without taking your attention off the road ahead of you. Chevy also makes it easy to seamlessly connect your smartphone to your truck so you can continue to receive and send calls and texts while on the road, so no minute is wasted. With the myChevrolet app, you can easily stay up to date on vehicle notifications or make maintenance appointments. And just because you're on the go doesn't mean you can't take your favorite music or podcasts with you.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can connect with compatible smartphones to bring you all your favorites with just a swipe of a finger. But Chevy doesn't stop there, taking the convenience one step further by integrating its tech with Amazon's Alexa. With Alexa, you never have to take your hands off the wheel. Use voice command to place an order from your Amazon account or connect with other compatible smart devices. To add to the convenience, an available built-in Wi-Fi hotspot makes it even easier for you and your passengers to keep their devices connected while on the go. It doesn't get much better than that.

F-150 Interior Features

The 2022 Ford F-150 may be known as a work truck, but that doesn't mean it can't be comfortable as well. The F-150 makes it easy to take your office on the road with you. With plenty of headroom and legroom, plus a great variety of storage compartments and interior workspace, you can work anywhere anytime. The new F-150 offers a Digital Productivity Screen, which allows for drivers to do things like monitor cruise control, access GPS, and see touring information.

The available FordPass app helps you stay connected to your vehicle, doing things like alerting you to vehicle levels and when it's time to make a maintenance appointment. Plus, it can act as a hotspot, so it's always easy to stay connected. The F-150 also makes it easy to go hands-free with its enhanced voice recognition, plus the touch screen conveniently located on the dash makes sure everything is only a finger swipe away. Using the touchscreen, drivers can also connect to GPS directions and music or get and send calls.

Safety

Staying Safe Off the Job

The priority on a worksite is normally worker safety. So why would it be any different when it comes to a truck, which typically rides the line between work and play? Both iconic brands, Chevy and Ford, are known for their high safety standards, so drivers can always feel confident their truck has their back when it comes to delivering some of the best safety features out there.

The Silverado 1500 uses a handful of the latest safety features to give their drivers confidence while out on the road. The 2022 Chevy truck has up to 15 different camera views. From hitch view to surround view, drivers will have no trouble seeing what is going on around them. With six driving views and five available parking views, Chevy has you covered on all sides. The In-Vehicle Trailering System helps drivers out by providing things like pre-departure checklists and monitoring the trailer's temperature and tire pressure, among other things. To help take the stress out of hauling, technologies like Hill Assist and Trailer Sway Control are there for you.

The new Silverado from Chevy also has plenty of everyday driving safety features like Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. These keep you covered front and back and can alert the driver or respond to an unexpected situation, helping to hopefully prevent or at least lessen the instance of an extreme collision. The 2022 Silverado also has eyes on your blind spots. Available Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning tell drivers when a vehicle is approaching from behind or sitting in your blind spot and warn if they are in danger of drifting into another lane. With all these features and more, Chevy proves it isn't just looking out for you but everyone you share the road with.

Ford Safety Technology

The Ford F-150 is a full-size truck meant to keep people safe in some of the harshest conditions. On the job site or off the beaten path, the truck is made to work. With excellent basic features like Forward Collision Alert, drivers are alerted to a potential collision with a car in front of them. And with Front Pedestrian Braking, you are kept alert if a person steps out in front of you, with the system gently applying the brakes to minimize an accident. Plus, with Lane Keep Assist, drivers will be notified if they are potentially drifting from their lane into another. Lane Assist also gives the helpful suggestion of pulling over as the driver may be fatigued and need to take a break.
