The recent announcement of an all-new, completely refreshed 2025 Chevy Suburban is incredibly exciting for a variety of reasons. First, we’re always excited to see an iconic vehicle like the Suburban receive an update. As one of the longest-running vehicles of all time, the Suburban has been responsible for hauling families, farm equipment, and all other types of precious cargo since 1935. The Suburban even has its own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. So when we see a Chevy as significant as this start a new chapter of its life, we can’t help but be excited about it.
Furthermore, Chevy has announced that both the 2025 Suburban and Tahoe will be made at GM’s Arlington Assembly plant, right here in Texas. 2024 marks the 70th anniversary of production at the Arlington facility, and GM has invested over $500 million in tooling and equipment to prepare for the new Suburban and Tahoe. While we wait for the 2025 Chevy Suburban to make its official appearance, here are some of the things that have us most excited for this new refresh of the iconic full-size SUV.
What’s New for 2025
In the plainest of terms, Chevy has updated everything about the Suburban. It has fresh new looks and even more capability. Having led the segment for nearly 50 years, it’s hard to think about how the Suburban could be better than ever, but the designers and engineers at Chevy are very good at their jobs. There are a few mechanical updates, such as adding the Silverado’s diesel engine as an option for Suburban drivers. There are also many technological upgrades, from an expanded range of driver assistance technology to handy trailering tools. The infotainment screen is bigger, and there are more cameras and sensors than ever.
Even the design elements of the Suburban’s exterior and cabin have been carefully reconsidered. Phil Zak, executive design director for Global Chevrolet, stated in the 2025 Tahoe and Suburban press release, “The new faces of Tahoe and Suburban are more expressive, borrowing inspiration from the recently refreshed Chevrolet truck lineup. They remain as versatile as ever, but with a greater emphasis on the details that have driven these large SUVs to the top of their segment.” Though the LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier and High Country trim levels remain familiar, the Suburban that wears these nameplates is about to become even better.

A New Diesel Engine
The Chevy Suburban has received more praise than usual for its drivability. After all, many people expect a vehicle of its size to feel a little clunky behind the wheel. Chevy has engaged technology to improve the driving experience over the years, but the 2025 Suburban promises to be even more well-mannered.
The standard engine across most of the Suburban lineup will continue to be the current 5.3L gasoline-powered V8. As with today’s lineup, the 2025 Suburban will offer the 6.2L V8 as the standard power source on the High Country trim, as well as an option for RST, Z71, and Premier trim drivers.
The new diesel option is the same 3.0L inline-6 Turbo-diesel Duramax mode, but it provides more power than the outgoing model year’s 3.0L diesel. Those who are familiar with Chevy trucks may recognize this engine from the Silverado 1500 lineup. As a favorite for those who need more power and refinement in their pickup truck, this engine provides the Suburban with 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque––a distinct increase over the previous diesel engine’s 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
Also updated for 2025 is the Suburban’s suspension system. The multilink independent rear suspension that was introduced on the 2024 model has been further calibrated to give all three rows of passengers and your cargo the smoothest ride possible. Drivers can also select available Air Ride Adaptive Suspension on the RST, Z71, and High Country trims. This provides automatic leveling and adjusts ride height for comfort and aerodynamics. Magnetic Ride Control, the same technology that gives the Corvette a smooth ride, is standard on the Premier and High Country trims and available on the RST and Z71 trims.
Our Pick for Best New Features
We couldn’t definitively rank our favorite new features because they all have a distinct purpose. But we bet you’ll be just as excited as we are about some of these new Suburban offerings.
First, there are the safety and driver assistance features. GM’s brand new Interior Motion Detection will debut on the 2025 Suburban. This technology can detect tiny movements within the vehicle. If the vehicle is parked and turned off when it detects movement, it will send a series of alerts to ensure no one and nothing is trapped in your vehicle.
Chevy’s Connected Cameras system will be made available on the Suburban for the first time in 2025 as well. This feature includes cameras throughout the interior and exterior of the vehicle which serve a variety of purposes. Not only do drivers get a 360-degree view of the exterior, they can also access features like Crash Recording, Security Recording, and even a Live View via the myChevrolet app and OnStar.
Super Cruise will also be available in late 2025 Suburban models, providing hands-free driving assistance on more than 400,000 miles of roadways across North America. As for convenience, the 2025 Chevy Suburban has been carefully designed to be helpful in all situations. The AutoSense Power Liftgate allows access to the generous cargo area, which has a maximum of 144.7 cu.ft., even when you don’t have a spare hand.
The cabin has also been designed to put everything within easy reach for the driver and first-row passenger. The new standard 17.7-inch freeform infotainment screen is angled for intuitive driver access, while the center console has been completely redesigned and repositioned to provide even more access to storage and the wireless charging pad.
Even the steering wheel has been redesigned to provide greater comfort while looking spectacular. New interior options will include Victory Red stitching on the RST models, authentic wood in the High Country cabin, and options like Piano Black, Galvano chrome, and wingtip perforated leather upholstery.

Welcome the 2025 Chevy Suburban
While we still have a bit of time before we can run our fingers down that Piano Black interior in person, the 2025 Chevy Suburban gives us a lot to look forward to.
There’s actually much to look forward to in the 2025 Chevy lineup in general, with plenty of updates and refreshes on many trucks, SUVs, and even the Corvette. However, the Suburban has a special place on America’s roadways and in our hearts. Not only does it have plenty of room for up to eight passengers and cargo space that rivals vehicles in the segment, but it is part of our history. From the farmers and rural dwellers who used the first Suburban Carry-All vehicles to build our state to the drivers who use today’s Chevy Suburban to get across town, across the state, or across the country, there’s no doubt that this vehicle has benefited drivers for nearly 100 years. Following the Chevy Suburban into its next year is something many drivers, experts, and fans are looking forward to.
