Chevy trucks have always been known for their dependability and unwavering standards of quality. While there’s always excitement buzzing about the current Chevy lineup of cars, trucks, and SUVs, did you know that test driving and purchasing a used Chevy can provide you with the same high standard of quality that you’ll find with the current lineup? Whether it’s last year’s model, or one manufactured a decade ago, Chevy trucks possess the ability to go the extra distance for their owners.
At North Park Chevrolet, we pride ourselves on offering our customers the best that Chevy has to offer. We’re not just a used truck dealership, we’re the best Castroville used truck dealer, and we take our inventory very seriously. There are several models of Chevy trucks that are just as dependable as their newer counterparts, and we’ve gathered a few examples of them that will assist you at work and play.
2013 Chevy Avalanche
We’re kicking things off with a blast from the past. If you’ve ever wondered what the love child of a Chevy truck and SUV might look like, then the Avalanche is certainly the answer and one that was beloved by many devotees of the bow-tie brand. While no longer in production, a used Avalanche will afford you all the advantages of owning a Chevy truck, with the versatility of an SUV. Powered by a 5.3L V-8 capable of generating 320 horsepower, you’re also taken care of if you have a penchant for towing, with a capacity of 5,000 lbs. Available cargo bed space of over 8 feet and a payload of 1,300 lbs makes for a vehicle that’s excellent all around.
2017 Chevy Silverado 1500
The Silverado 1500 has long been heralded as the standard-bearer for the fleet of Chevy trucks. There’s a good reason for that. The Silverado is just as versatile as it is powerful. With each year that passes, the model seems to age like a fine bottle of wine. Following a redesign in 2016, the Silverado that emerged for the 2017 model year once again proved why it’s the king of the mountain, the road, and every other location in between.
Many have described the Silverado 1500 as a workhorse, and believe us when we say that it lives up to its name in every possible aspect. For 2017, an available towing capacity of 9,400 lbs outperformed every other truck in its class, once again establishing the truck’s consistent supremacy. Depending upon which model you find, you’ll have plenty of performance, as this year, Chevy put the word “power” in “powertrain.” A 4.3L V-6 came standard and had impressive capabilities such as 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. For those who are always on the lookout for stronger engines, a 5.3L and 6.2L V-8 were available and had more than enough power to leave the competition far behind. The 5.3L V-8 boasted specs of 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, whereas its big brother cranked out 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
Just like many Silverado 1500s, the 2017 model has the ability to go the distance with a potential life span of 200,000 miles…now that’s making a return on your investment.

2018 Chevy Colorado
For those of you who have fond memories of the Chevy S-10, you’ll be happy to know that the Chevy Colorado is the ideal heir apparent to the throne of the beloved and revered smaller-sized Chevy pickup. Despite what some people might tell you, big things do indeed come in small packages, and the Colorado is proof of this sentiment.
Versatility has always been the cornerstone of the Chevy truck, and the Colorado embraces this quality wholeheartedly. Much like the Silverado 1500 the previous year, the Colorado soundly beat out the competition when it came to towing prowess. Boasting an impressive 7,700 lbs towing capacity, the Colorado proved to be the smaller-sized pickup with big ambitions. While an inline 4-cylinder came standard, there was also room for improvement with a Duramax turbo-diesel and a highly effective V-6 engine capable of 308 horsepower. Such a unique lineup of engine offerings made the 2018 Colorado more versatile than the competition.
For those of you who live for traveling off the pavement, you might be fortunate enough to track down a Colorado with the ZR2 off-road package. Even if you’re more comfortable staying on the beaten path and not off it, the specially designed suspension system for the Colorado ZR2 might prove too much of a temptation to not try out in the wild. The Colorado ZR2 also happens to rank high in terms of reliability, making it one of the most dependable trucks on the road today. With so much versatility, the Colorado might just be the last pickup you ever feel the need to buy.
2020 Chevy Silverado 2500/3500 HD
We go from the little truck that could to the big trucks that can. Can what? Can do everything you need it to. The Silverado 2500 and 3500 HD are for the big jobs and heavy workloads that would make anyone else shrink up into the fetal position. Arriving in 1999, the same year that witnessed the arrival of the GMC Denali trim line, these vehicles are proof that the year in question was more than ideal for GM.
Should you find either the 2500 or 3500 HD, you’ll soon have a greater understanding of the phrase “work smart, not hard.” The powertrain options that Chevy equipped their heavy-duty workhorses with that year consisted of two engines that were both 6.6L V8s. The gasoline-powered engine was the standard offering and could easily make the earth shake with its 401 horsepower. This was complemented by the ability to generate 464 lb-ft of torque. Of course, there’s always room to get more done, and just as they’ve been doing for the past several years, it’s a Duramax diesel engine that can be that pivotal “ace up your sleeve.”
The 6.6L Duramax Diesel came equipped with a ten-speed automatic transmission and leveled the entire playing field with the capability to generate 445 horsepower and an astonishing 910 lb-ft of torque. Allowing the 3500 HD a maximum 35,500 lbs of towing capacity, this is one diesel that delivers in every sense of the word. Of course, both models offer workers a sizable advantage in the payload department as well, with payload capacities of up to 3,715 for the 2500 HD and 7,145 for the 3500 HD.

A Chevy Used Is a Chevy for You
We certainly hope you’ve enjoyed this unique detour away from convention to see what a used Chevy can deliver to you in terms of performance, versatility, and of course, the results that only a tried-and-true workhorse can generate. As we’ve seen, there’s a size and model of Chevy truck for every driver and every purpose. This standard of quality has been a part of Chevy since its inception over a century ago. With results that go back that far, it’s no surprise that the models manufactured in our time still possess that quality that very few manufacturers come close to matching in terms of delivering the very best for their customers. Don’t hesitate—that Chevy might be used, but it’s also perfect for you and what you need to accomplish.
