Which Chevy Truck Best Fits Your Needs?

Blue Chevy Silverado driving on a dirt road.

It's no secret that Chevrolet is kind of a big deal in the truck world. They have a range of trucks, offering something for anyone who wants a pickup—from commuters to off-roaders to contractors and beyond. Chevy has been making trucks for over 100 years, so you could say they know what they're doing. The question is, do you know which one of their trucks is right for you? If you're currently searching for a "Chevy dealer near me" online, then you probably want to get to know Chevy's selection of trucks before you begin shopping.

Below, we'll cover Chevy's array of trucks, including their performance and features. They all have a pickup bed and that iconic Chevy nameplate, but they also have a lot of differences that are important to note. It's important that you drive home in a Chevy that can handle whatever you need it to handle, and at the same time, don't accidentally buy more than you need. Let's get to know the Chevy truck lineup, and when you're ready for a test drive, you can visit us here at North Park Chevrolet.

The Colorado

Let's start with the Colorado, Chevy's smallest truck. This midsize truck is a great option for anyone who needs the practical perks of a pickup bed but also wants a truck with a small frame that is still easy enough to maneuver and park in tight parking spots. It could easily be a work truck or a city truck, and its fuel economy could definitely make it a good daily driver for a commuter.

Depending on the model year, you will mostly see four-cylinder and V8 engines. The Colorado is 4WD capable, so if you live somewhere with occasional rough terrain or have to travel down dirt and mud paths to get to your job sites, the Colorado will give you the traction you need to get where you're going.

Recent Colorado models have just one bed length however older ones can be found with both short and long bed options. Colorado is generally going to have a towing range between roughly 3,000 to 7,000 pounds, depending on how it's equipped, so it's ready to drag small boats for days on the lake, small moving pods for moving days, and maybe some ATVs or modestly sized equipment.

The Silverado 1500

Now, let's move on to the Silverado 1500. This is Chevy's full-size but light-duty truck, and it's available with multiple bed and cab options. This makes it a really popular choice amongst a wide variety of drivers because you can choose whether you prioritize cargo capacity, passenger capacity, or possibly both. Because it is a light-duty truck, the Silverado 1500 still gets solid enough fuel economy to be a daily driver. So, if you need a vehicle that you can use to take the kids to school and run errands, as well as handle some work-related tasks, the Silverado 1500 is a great option and features a variety of engine options.

You're going to bump towing powers up to around 9,000 to 13,000 lbs, depending on the trim. This clearly makes the Silverado 1500 more of a work truck than the Colorado. Drivers also love that the Silverado has the innovative Multi-Flex Tailgate. This is a highly convenient tailgate that can be set to six positions. You can create a first and second-tier load stop to securely transport long items. You can also fold the tailgate into a surface, providing the perfect place to fill out invoices, look over blueprints, or even enjoy a standing lunch. You can even fold it down into a full-width step to access your truck bed.

The Silverado is also known for its diverse trim options. It has a terrific starting trim that has everything you need for a reliable work truck. It also has several off-road trims ranging from more of a light-duty off-road option to a rugged trim for a serious off-road enthusiast. It also has a terrific luxury option for those who like to treat themselves to the finer things in life, like high-end upholstery and premium sound systems.

The Silverado EV

Now, we arrive at the Silverado EV. Technically it is akin to the Silverado 1500 but it is an electrified version. Ultimately, however, it is its own model. It has sophisticated modern styling and an all-electric powertrain that boasts over 400 miles of range. So, if you have been looking for a reputable work truck with solid towing and payload figures but you never want to step foot at a gas station again, consider the Silverado EV.

It's loaded with high technology. You will find massive and crisp touchscreens everywhere you look in the front seat, from the entertainment screen to a digital cluster display and more. It also has excellent driver assistance features, including hands-free driving capabilities courtesy of the Super Cruise feature. Plus, if you need power at your job site and all the outlets are either taken or nowhere to be found, it even has a 10.2 kW offboard power generator, so you can always plug in your power tools, lights, big speakers, and more. Drivers don't have to choose between great towing powers or a fuel-efficient vehicle with the innovative Silverado EV.

The Silverado HD Lineup

Finally, we arrived at the Chevy Silverado HD line of trucks. These heavy-duty trucks are great for commercial and industrial applications. From construction sites to farms to warehouses and more, these massive trucks can handle serious tasks and rugged environments. Your Silverado 2500 HD will be able to tow over 22,000 lbs when properly equipped. The Silverado 3500 HD tows over 36,000 lbs, so from cement mix to trailers, you'll be ready to drag the vessels you need for your work behind these big trucks. They typically have V8 and or diesel engines ready for hard work. They are ready to tackle serious jobs when you're working on a home project or carrying equipment to the next job.

The 2022 Chevy Bolt: Why It’s Far More Than Just an “Eco-Friendly” Model

The Chevy Bolt has come a long way since its debut in 2012. If you haven’t been keeping up with the latest advancements, you may not have the Bolt in your mind’s forefront when you’re searching “ Chevy dealer near me.” However, before you write it off and go with a Trax, consider what the new 2022 Chevy Bolt models have to offer. These vehicles go above and beyond what previously defined the electric car market, offering great looks, convenient range, safety tech, and high-end technology features. How about space and storage, you ask? The standard Bolt may be a subcompact, but Chevy makes sure it’s not cramped. Drivers get space for up to 5 passengers, plus 36 inches of rear-seat leg space. If all that is still not enough room, the new Bolt EUV is also available to create both a family and eco-friendly commuting option. Either way, when you want to save money (and the environment) in style, a new Chevy Bolt awaits you. Great Commuter Models Tech, fuel efficiency, and comfort are three of the most important specs to look for in a vehicle. Both the Bolt EV and EUV offer all three, with tech features like hands-free driving and plentiful space for cargo and passengers. The regular 2022 Bolt has slightly less rear leg space, offering 36 inches compared to the EUV’s 39.2-inch rating. However, their cargo ratings are virtually the same. Both models have seating for up to 5 passengers as well. Part of enjoying the commute involves having good entertainment tech and the ability to keep the kids entertained. Both the EV and the EUV offer Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, useful for audio and podcast streaming. You’ll also gain access to features like wireless phone charging and Amazon Alexa integration with both models. However, the Bolt EUV does offer one thing that the EV doesn’t, and that’s GM’s Super Cruise technology. This is a new hands-free driving technology that covers over 200,000 miles of roadways thanks to LiDAR mapping, cameras, and sensors. To improve upon the safety, Chevy uses a Driver Attention System, ensuring that the driver stays alert and doesn’t solely rely on the Super Cruise technology. Overall, this system is designed to make driving less stressful𑁋not to replace the driver’s attention. Super Cruise works with Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Centering, and Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking to maintain speed and automatically stop the vehicle when necessary. From the highway all the way to curvy backroads, Super Cruise makes driving more relaxing than ever before without sacrificing safety. Since this is an electric-only model, gas station stops are a thing of the past. The 2022 Bolt EV can drive up to 259 miles on a full charge, while the SUV-styled EUV can make it up to 247 miles. And don’t assume that “electric” means “wimpy.” The Bolt EV can hit 0 to 60 in just 6.5 seconds, while the EUV falls closely behind at 7 seconds flat. When you’re in need of a Chevy commuter, the Bolt models are as well-rounded as it gets. Let’s Talk About Charging We understand that going from fuel to charge is a big change for many drivers. That said, it’s much simpler than you’d think, especially since Chevy promises to install Level 2 home chargers for free for anyone who buys or leases a brand new qualifying Bolt model. As long as you plug in your car to keep it charged overnight, your work commutes will be a breeze. Long-term traveling is a larger concern for most people thinking about purchasing an EV, and understandably so. Thanks to the myChevrolet Mobile App, driving range stops are calculated for you. Additionally, the EUV’s Super Cruise feature includes routes that are charge-friendly, including fast-charge stations that bump up the range much quicker than traditional chargers. Both models include standard DC “fast-charging” capability, meaning it comes at no extra cost to the consumer. Safety First! While the EUV’s Super Cruise feature proves safe, most people want more than just a secure hands-free driving system. Thanks to Standard Chevy Safety Assist on both Bolt models, you can rest assured that safety is no concern here. Standard features on both models include the following: Front Pedestrian Braking: Automatically helps stop the Bolt when a pedestrian crossing in front of the vehicle. Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking: Similar to Front Pedestrian Braking, Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking work together to notify the driver of a potential collision, stopping the vehicle automatically when needed. Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning: Keeps the vehicle centered in the appropriate lane (unless the driver is using their turn signal). Sends a notification to alert the driver when unintentional “lane drifting” occurs. Following Distance Indicator: Allows the driver to automatically maintain a safe distance between themselves and the vehicle ahead. IntelliBeam Auto High Beams: Automatically adjusts the high beams when oncoming traffic appears, preventing “bright lighting.” Since these features are standard, buyers won’t have to pay extra fees just to get the “high-end” options. Safety isn’t a luxury feature with the Chevy Bolt. Why Make the Switch? While “to save the environment, of course” is the more predictable, heroic answer, there are several more reasons to switch to electric vehicles. First off, you won’t have to spend nearly as much on maintenance. This is because there really isn’t anything to maintain. You don’t have to worry about engine oil, brake wear is minimal, and finally: engine who? The money-saving just keeps trickling down from there, as you’ll never have to spend money on fuel again, and you may even be eligible for a tax credit simply for owning an electric vehicle. In fact, you can get up to $7,500 in federal tax credits for owning a Bolt. Our own state of Texas complies with the Federal Tax Credits while also offering up to $2,500 in state tax credits. Charging stations are becoming more and more prevalent, too, and home chargers are readily available to anyone, making it easier and more convenient to own an electric model. The cons no longer outweigh the pros here. Should I Get the EV or the EUV? Since cargo space is virtually the same and both models can carry up to 5 passengers, which model is technically “better?” The truth is that this really comes down to style more than anything. If you like the SUV look better than the car look, then you’ll want the EUV. Feeling vice versa? The EV is the model for you. The only major differentiating factor that separates buyers here is the fact that the EUV offers Super Cruise Hands-Free Driving. Furthermore, the Bolt EV does get a bit more range and is slightly faster at accelerating than the Bolt EUV due to weight differences. Aside from these factors, though, the models offer many of the same features. The EUV is roughly $2,000 more than the EV, likely due to its additional Super Cruise feature and slightly larger body style. Start Deciding Now! The trick to getting a new 2022 model right now is finding the option to get one. This is true across the board, thanks to the Pandemic-induced chip shortage. Put simply; the auto industry is really behind when it comes to production. If you get the chance to reserve a Bolt or even to custom order a unique one of your own, now is the time to make your decision. We’ve provided you with all the important specs and comparisons you’ll need in order to decide. So, don’t waste any more time!
