Durable. Dependable. Rugged. These are just a few of the words often used to describe the Chevy Silverado. General Motors has been manufacturing trucks for a long time, finessing the Silverado for over two decades now, designing it to handle challenging conditions and difficult tasks—and the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 is no exception to the rule.

With a slew of changes made to the 2024 lineup, the new Silverado 1500 offers an active dual exhaust with Sport Mode on all models outfitted with the 6.2L V8 engine; meanwhile, the 2.7L High-Output I-4 engine holds the new designation of "TurboMax." There are now more ways to customize the Silverado 1500, too, with the Midnight Edition now available on the High Country and the Blackout Appearance Package serving as an option for the Custom, Custom Trail Boss, RST, LT Trail Boss, and ZR2 trim levels. OnStar and smartphone app integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on the base WT trim, and a rear seat belt indicator comes on all trim levels.

What else does the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 have to offer its buyers? From its refined styling cues to its list of newly-standard tech and safety features, this truck has everything you need to enjoy your commute as much as you will your light-duty work and adventure.

There's no denying that the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 is downright stylish. This year, you can choose from a few new chic paint colors for the body: Slate Gray Metallic and Lakeshore Blue Metallic. You can also choose from the Midnight Edition and Blackout Appearance Package, available on select trim levels. On the Midnight Edition, your cabin and exterior body get a complete wash in black paint, and you get cool LED lighting to illuminate the power-retractable side steps, making it easier to get in and out of the vehicle after dark. The comparable Blackout Appearance Package offers 20-inch High Gloss Black painted wheels and blacked-out badging for a stealthy nighttime vibe.

Expect everything else from the previous model year to carry over. The WT comes with rubber floor covering and vinyl seating, while the next trim level up—the Custom—offers accents done in the body color as well as cloth upholstery for your seats. You can find chrome exterior accents on the LT trim—and if you want leather upholstery, you'll find it starting on the rather luxurious LTZ, which rides around on sleek and sophisticated 20-inch alloy wheels.

For those who love off-roading, the Silverado 1500 offers a couple of trim levels that are oriented specifically for those places untrodden. The Custom Trail Boss can be powered by the standard 2.7L TurboMax, the 5.3L V8, or the 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel. Four-wheel drive comes standard on this trim level for maximum traction and grip, and the Z71 off-road suspension package adds a 2.0-inch ride height lift plus upgraded Rancho shocks. Hill descent control helps with managing downward descent, and the 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires grip all kinds of off-road terrain with ease.

There is, of course, the ZR2 trim level to consider; this one is newer than the Custom Trail Boss and was built as an advanced off-roading option that competes well with top rivals in the segment. The ZR2 can only come as a Crew Cab with the short bed, and it is exclusively powered by the 6.2L V8 in four-wheel drive. Additionally, this trim level gives you massive 33-inch all-terrain tires, upgraded skid plates (which blanket the underside of your Silverado and protect its vital components), and adaptive dampers geared toward off-roading. The electronic locking front and rear differentials also assist in keeping the ZR2 stable while traveling off the beaten path. Inside, you get manual paddle shifters and an upgraded seven-speaker Bose premium audio system.

Technology

Technology abounds on the new 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500, showcasing just how dedicated GM is to bringing drivers a contemporary pickup with all the desirable features. As already mentioned, the Silverado 1500 now has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto—as well as OnStar's services—equipped on every single trim level. The WT also comes with Bluetooth connectivity, two USB ports up front, and a two-speaker sound system.

The Custom, however, comes with a number of desirable upgrades: SiriusXM Satellite Radio compatibility, Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity, a six-speaker sound system, a 120-volt cabin outlet, and a 120-volt outlet in the truck bed. This sound system provides ample and crisp sound quality throughout the cabin, but—on the LTZ and High Country—you can get a premium Bose sound system, which packs a real punch in terms of audio quality.

All Chevy Silverado 1500 trim levels are also outfitted with the bowtie brand's stellar touchscreen infotainment interfaces. Standard on the LT trim and above is a horizontal 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen; this beauty offers easy-to-navigate menus and has crisp, clear graphics. You can easily sync your smartphone, and you can use voice recognition through Google Built-In, as it is likewise compatible with this system.

Paired alongside this massive infotainment screen is a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster display; this gives you a digital readout of relevant vehicle information and does so with its sensible layout. The LTZ trim level adds a slew of tech features that makes the Silverado 1500 feel even more modern; this trim gives you a wireless charging pad that you can use for your Qi-compatible smartphone or tablet, thereby eliminating the cord clutter that tends to occur up front.

General Motors wants to ensure the safety of everyone riding in their vehicles, which is why they offer a long list of standard advanced driver aids on each model. The Chevy Safety Assist driver assistance suite comes on each trim level, and it includes Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, IntelliBeam High Beam Assist, and an HD Rear Vision Camera.

Adaptive Cruise Control now comes standard on the High Country trim level, offering drivers the ability to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of them with their Silverado autonomously managing their speed. The LTZ makes multiple additions, giving you helpful features such as Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. These let you know if a vehicle is traveling in your blind spot or approaching while you're in reverse. The LTZ also offers Surround Vision, a composite simulated top-down vantage displaying everything that immediately surrounds your truck; given the size of the Silverado 1500, having the extra vantage digitally displayed makes driving around town all the safer.

Performance

One of the biggest reasons people buy the Chevy Silverado 1500 is because it serves up an immense amount of power regardless of your powertrain. There aren't too many changes to the powertrain lineup for 2024, but bear in mind that the 2.7L High-Output I-4 is now known as the "TurboMax." The name is newly adopted by Chevy and is supposed to indicate just how diesel-like the 2.7L really is.

Also, the ZR2 can now be outfitted with the 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine. This six-cylinder engine is paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission and generates 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. This remarkable level of torque is just what the Silverado 1500 needs if you plan on doing a lot of heavy towing, especially at slow speeds.

The other powertrains are no slouches either and are extremely capable of delivering premium power. The 2.7L TurboMax comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and serves up 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. Up a notch from that is the 5.3L V8, which pumps out 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque and is matched to the ten-speed automatic transmission. Also matched with a ten-speed is the 6.2L V8, which produces 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

The ten-speed automatic transmission is particularly adept at smoothly shifting gears exactly when you need it. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard on most trims, with four-wheel drive (4WD) being optional, although 4WD is mandated for the 6.2L V8. In other words, there are many ways you can configure your Silverado 1500!

Plan on doing a lot of towing? The Silverado 1500 can tow some heavy loads. A WT Crew Cab in RWD can tow up to 9,500 lbs, while the RWD LTZ Crew Cab can pull a beefy 11,200 lbs. Chevy's availability of towing and trailering technology makes hitching up and getting going even easier.

The Trailering Package comes standard starting on the Custom trim level; this trim also adds guidelines to the projection of your rearview camera for help hitching up. The LTZ's Advanced Trailering System adds trailer monitoring features such as a Trailer Maintenance Reminder, letting you know when something is going wrong with your trailer.
