The Chevy Bolt has come a long way since its debut in 2012. If you haven’t been keeping up with the latest advancements, you may not have the Bolt in your mind’s forefront when you’re searching “Chevy dealer near me.” However, before you write it off and go with a Trax, consider what the new 2022 Chevy Bolt models have to offer. These vehicles go above and beyond what previously defined the electric car market, offering great looks, convenient range, safety tech, and high-end technology features.
How about space and storage, you ask? The standard Bolt may be a subcompact, but Chevy makes sure it’s not cramped. Drivers get space for up to 5 passengers, plus 36 inches of rear-seat leg space. If all that is still not enough room, the new Bolt EUV is also available to create both a family and eco-friendly commuting option. Either way, when you want to save money (and the environment) in style, a new Chevy Bolt awaits you.
Great Commuter Models
Tech, fuel efficiency, and comfort are three of the most important specs to look for in a vehicle. Both the Bolt EV and EUV offer all three, with tech features like hands-free driving and plentiful space for cargo and passengers. The regular 2022 Bolt has slightly less rear leg space, offering 36 inches compared to the EUV’s 39.2-inch rating. However, their cargo ratings are virtually the same. Both models have seating for up to 5 passengers as well.
Part of enjoying the commute involves having good entertainment tech and the ability to keep the kids entertained. Both the EV and the EUV offer Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, useful for audio and podcast streaming. You’ll also gain access to features like wireless phone charging and Amazon Alexa integration with both models.
However, the Bolt EUV does offer one thing that the EV doesn’t, and that’s GM’s Super Cruise technology. This is a new hands-free driving technology that covers over 200,000 miles of roadways thanks to LiDAR mapping, cameras, and sensors. To improve upon the safety, Chevy uses a Driver Attention System, ensuring that the driver stays alert and doesn’t solely rely on the Super Cruise technology. Overall, this system is designed to make driving less stressful𑁋not to replace the driver’s attention. Super Cruise works with Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Centering, and Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking to maintain speed and automatically stop the vehicle when necessary. From the highway all the way to curvy backroads, Super Cruise makes driving more relaxing than ever before without sacrificing safety.
Since this is an electric-only model, gas station stops are a thing of the past. The 2022 Bolt EV can drive up to 259 miles on a full charge, while the SUV-styled EUV can make it up to 247 miles. And don’t assume that “electric” means “wimpy.” The Bolt EV can hit 0 to 60 in just 6.5 seconds, while the EUV falls closely behind at 7 seconds flat. When you’re in need of a Chevy commuter, the Bolt models are as well-rounded as it gets.

Let’s Talk About Charging
We understand that going from fuel to charge is a big change for many drivers. That said, it’s much simpler than you’d think, especially since Chevy promises to install Level 2 home chargers for free for anyone who buys or leases a brand new qualifying Bolt model. As long as you plug in your car to keep it charged overnight, your work commutes will be a breeze.
Long-term traveling is a larger concern for most people thinking about purchasing an EV, and understandably so. Thanks to the myChevrolet Mobile App, driving range stops are calculated for you. Additionally, the EUV’s Super Cruise feature includes routes that are charge-friendly, including fast-charge stations that bump up the range much quicker than traditional chargers. Both models include standard DC “fast-charging” capability, meaning it comes at no extra cost to the consumer.
Safety First!
While the EUV’s Super Cruise feature proves safe, most people want more than just a secure hands-free driving system. Thanks to Standard Chevy Safety Assist on both Bolt models, you can rest assured that safety is no concern here. Standard features on both models include the following:
- Front Pedestrian Braking: Automatically helps stop the Bolt when a pedestrian crossing in front of the vehicle.
- Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking: Similar to Front Pedestrian Braking, Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking work together to notify the driver of a potential collision, stopping the vehicle automatically when needed.
- Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning: Keeps the vehicle centered in the appropriate lane (unless the driver is using their turn signal). Sends a notification to alert the driver when unintentional “lane drifting” occurs.
- Following Distance Indicator: Allows the driver to automatically maintain a safe distance between themselves and the vehicle ahead.
- IntelliBeam Auto High Beams: Automatically adjusts the high beams when oncoming traffic appears, preventing “bright lighting.”
Since these features are standard, buyers won’t have to pay extra fees just to get the “high-end” options. Safety isn’t a luxury feature with the Chevy Bolt.
Why Make the Switch?
While “to save the environment, of course” is the more predictable, heroic answer, there are several more reasons to switch to electric vehicles. First off, you won’t have to spend nearly as much on maintenance. This is because there really isn’t anything to maintain. You don’t have to worry about engine oil, brake wear is minimal, and finally: engine who?
The money-saving just keeps trickling down from there, as you’ll never have to spend money on fuel again, and you may even be eligible for a tax credit simply for owning an electric vehicle. In fact, you can get up to $7,500 in federal tax credits for owning a Bolt. Our own state of Texas complies with the Federal Tax Credits while also offering up to $2,500 in state tax credits. Charging stations are becoming more and more prevalent, too, and home chargers are readily available to anyone, making it easier and more convenient to own an electric model. The cons no longer outweigh the pros here.

Should I Get the EV or the EUV?
Since cargo space is virtually the same and both models can carry up to 5 passengers, which model is technically “better?” The truth is that this really comes down to style more than anything. If you like the SUV look better than the car look, then you’ll want the EUV. Feeling vice versa? The EV is the model for you. The only major differentiating factor that separates buyers here is the fact that the EUV offers Super Cruise Hands-Free Driving.
Furthermore, the Bolt EV does get a bit more range and is slightly faster at accelerating than the Bolt EUV due to weight differences. Aside from these factors, though, the models offer many of the same features. The EUV is roughly $2,000 more than the EV, likely due to its additional Super Cruise feature and slightly larger body style.
